About Akanke
Akanke: A Creative Woman, A Renaissance Soul
Conventional wisdom claims that for each of us there is only one true path in life....
...But, what about those individuals who have a variety of interests, a dynamic curiosity about the world, and an ever-renewing wellspring of passions and talents? Author, Margaret Lobenstine calls these people “Renaissance Souls”.
Akanke is indeed a renaissance soul. She is a woman with many passions, talent, and pursuits and it excites her to do the things she loves. Ever since she was knee-high, Akanke has been involved in doing creative things. Throughout high school, she participated in modern dance, chorus, and fashion modeling. With the encouragement of her mother, she competed in community pageants to display her creativity and intelligence and compete for scholarships. After graduating from high school she entered college to study Mass Communications.
Akanke's graphic design career started in 1989 after she purchased her first personal computer. With her new Apple computer, she was inspired to venture into her own freelance secretarial service, helping clients who didn't have their own secretary, by offering a range of services. Now, with over 20 years of graphic design experience, Akanke has a reputation for doing exemplary work. She always strives to do her best and aims to exceed her client's expectations.
In the early 90's Akanke returned to her love for mass communications and received training in community-based television production. Since then she has produced and hosted live television talk shows and interviewed a variety of captivating authors, scholars, artists, leaders and community activists who are known locally and internationally for their culturally-enriching and educational contributions. During the same time, Akanke also started working in radio, as an on-air host and morning news announcer and today she is also a voiceover artist.
In 2003, Akanke's television production turned towards her interest in documentaries and she founded 7Adinkras Creative Media—a group of creative women involved in various documentary projects. She continues to work on bringing 7Adinkras' projects to fruition. Learn more about her production experience here.
Akanke is also an abstract painter and is fascinated by abstract art. Visit The Art Gallery to see some of her works of art.
In line with Akanke’s love for seeing others grow, she is also a certified Life Coach. The meaning of her name says a lot about who she is as a friend and life coach. Akanke means, “To know her is to love her”, and Tiamoyo means “one who assists others in all things good and beautiful”. Being a life coach helps bring greater significance to who she strives to be. Akanke’s insight, intuition, and passion for life translates into commitment and enthusiasm for her clients as she coaches them towards greater achievement. She is grateful for her many blessings and strives to help others see their blessings and actualize their gifts.
